Agrément South Africa awards 29 fit-for-purpose certificates to local and international companies
Agrément South Africa, an agency of the Department of Public Works managed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has awarded 29 fit-for-purpose certificates during the 2016/2017 financial year following a rigorous process of testing and evaluation.
The CSIR and ATNS collaborate on industrialisation
The South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 9 May 2017 to collaborate on a national multi-static passive radar facility. The CSIR and ATNS will join forces to establish a technology base that will be utilised to establish solutions in partnership with local industry.

Professor Fulufhelo Nelwamondo, a researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) made the science profession proud when President Jacob Zuma awarded him the Order of Mapungubwe in Silver for his excellent contribution to the field of science, particularly electrical engineering.

Supporting investment in electronic waste recycling technology
At least 90% of the printed circuit boards and 80% of the plastic recovered from electronic waste (e-waste) in South Africa are exported for reprocessing. In doing so, the country loses access to valuable metals, as well as the opportunity to create jobs. This is according to a recent study conducted by Mintek, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
